I Built a Free Recipe Card Maker Because Every Other One Had a Catch

I checked. Canva — sign-up wall. Smilebox — watermark on the free tier. Adobe Express — login required, then a 3-card limit before "upgrade to premium." Most recipe card tools are either cramped with ads, gate you after two downloads, or exist purely to upsell you on $12/month design subscriptions.
For something as simple as "fill in a recipe, make it look nice, download" — none of them just let you do that without friction.
What I built
free-recipe-card.com — a single-page tool that does exactly one thing.
- Type in your recipe name, ingredients, and steps
- Pick one of 4 templates (Classic, Modern, Minimal, Rustic)
- Choose a colour accent
- Set servings, prep time, cook time
- Download as PDF (print-ready 300dpi) or PNG
No sign-up. No watermark. No limit on how many cards you make.
The tech
Plain HTML + CSS + vanilla JS. The card preview renders live via a <canvas> — as you type, the card updates in real time. PDF export uses the canvas at 2x resolution so it prints crisp.
No framework, no backend, no database. The entire thing is ~240 lines of JS and ~900 lines of CSS hosted on Cloudflare Pages. That means it loads fast and doesn't track anything.
Why I made it free
Honestly, recipe cards shouldn't be a SaaS product. It's a solved UI problem — you fill in structured fields, you get back a formatted layout. The only reason most tools charge is because they can get away with it.
I run this at my own cost (~$0 on CF Pages free tier) and I'll keep it free as long as people use it.
